Spearwood Veterinary Hospital is staffed with qualified, caring and dedicated professionals.

Our 7 experienced veterinarians include:

Dr George Jackson (Principal veterinarian and practice owner)

lives on a farm with wife Jenny and daughter Sophie, Lewis the Labrador, Olivia, Sparky and Moo; cats Tammy and Stevie as well as an assortment of peacocks, chooks, horses and donkeys not to mention alpacas.

Dr Melissa Van Der Sluys (Senior Veterinarian)

Dr Van Der Sluys graduated from Murdoch Vet School in 2009 and lives in Perth with husband John and children Olivia and Thomas. Melissa has worked for a year in Canada before joining Spearwood Vet in 2011. Melissa is a very accomplished horsewoman, enjoys travelling and windsurfing and spending time at the beach with her family and dog “Lily” a Jack Russell cross

Dr Lucy Wearne (Senior Veterinarian)

Dr Wearne graduated from Murdoch Vet School in 2012 then gathered valuable experience working at quality hospitals before joining the team at Spearwood Vet in 2018 as a full time veterinarian. Lucy enjoys competitive rowing and spending time with friends and her dog “Ivy” a whippet cross and her cat “Annie”

Dr Caroline O’Dea (Senior Veterinarian)

Dr O’Dea is a very experienced Veterinarian who graduated from Murdoch Vet School in 1996. Caroline works part time now after many years of working fulltime. Caroline is married with children which keeps her very busy but she always finds time to enjoy a trip to the park or beach with her dog “Lenny” a Terrier – X

Dr Graham Miller (Senior Veterinarian)

Dr Miller graduated from Murdoch Vet School in 1986. Graham is a very experienced Vet who now works part time to allow time for his special interest in Photography. Graham lives in Fremantle with his wife Nicole who is also a Vet, son Jasper. He has been heavily involved in Foto-Fremantle and has taught photography at TAFE. They own a Border Terrier called “Murphy”

Dr Jessica Dufty (Senior Veterinarian)

Dr Dufty graduated from Murdoch Vet School in 2000. Jessica has had extensive experience with emergency care and currently works part time at Murdoch University and some weekends at Spearwood Vet. Although married she still finds time to grow butterflies and enjoy time with her pets.

Dr Tamsin Read (Senior Veterinarian)

Dr Read graduated from Murdoch Vet School in 1991. Tamsin is a very experienced vet who has worked overseas, recently spending a year living in Peru with her family. Tamsin enjoys sailing and outdoor activities such as hiking and bush walking.
Our team of veterinary nurses include:

Shaan (Senior Veterinary Nurse)

Shaan has been a Veterinary Nurse for 16 years and has worked in many different areas of nursing in this time, including general practice, speciality surgical, practice management, emergency and critical care and has lectured at TAFE. She has been with us here since September 2016 and enjoys nursing as well as managment tasks. She enjoys spending time with her husband and 2 children, especially getting out into the bush and camping. She has 2 dogs, Rook and Bohdi, 5 catsAsha, Minda, Stella, Meiko and Quinnie, as well as an assortment of chickens.

Michelle (Accounts Manager)

Michelle graduated as a Vet Nurse in 2002 and has been with us since 2006. She works part-time as Accounts Manager. She has a special interest in animal behaviour and ran our puppy preschool classes for many years. She lives with her husband and 3 boys, and has a dog named Sind, a cat named Missi and a turtle named Guido.

Christine (Senior Veterinary Nurse & Grooming Manager)

Chris has been with us for 18 years, as a Vet Nurse and Groomer. She now manages the grooming department. She has worked as a nurse in Sydney, Melbourne and here in Perth and has an interest in hands on patient care as well as diagnostic medicine. She lives with her husband and they have Archie the maltese cross, who you may see around the clinic. They also have 2 cats Cairo, who was the first Egyptian Mau to come to Perth, and Albert the rag doll cross. She enjoys walking, fitness, music, wine and gardening, as well as travelling to Bali for holidays.

Rebekah (Senior Veterinary Nurse)

Bek has been senior Vet Nurse, Nurse Manager & Puppy Preschool Coordinator. Bek has been a veterinary nurse since 2014 and has worked with us since graduating. She loves cuddling the animals that come in to the clinic. She loves spending time with her partner. She also enjoys gardening, and especially loves cactus and succulents. She also loves fermenting vegetables and kombucha, and enjoys spending time with friends and family. She has 1 dog, Tyson, a 3 legged cat called Indi, a deaf cat called Bowie, a cockatiel and a galah.

Rozanne (Senior Veterinary Nurse)

Rozanne is originally from South Africa and has been with us since 2015. Enjoys surgical nursing and enjoys being able to send pets home feeling better. She loves cats in particular and has a large tabby cat called George. She also lives with her husband and her Boerboel (South African Mastiff), Juba. She loves reading books, painting works of art and gardening.

Ripley (Qualified Veterinary Nurse)

Ripley has been a qualified in 2015 and has worked here since graduating. She loves being a Vet Nurse as every day is different and she is constantly learning new things and spending time with the animals. She has a special interest in cats and has her own Balinese cat Emi, who she rescued. She loves going 4 wheel driving and enjoys the beach, camping, the outdoors and working out in her spare time.

Leachelle (Senior Veterinary Nurse)

Leachelle has been a Vet Nurse at Spearwood Vet Hospital for 15 years. She has a dog Dexter works mainly on the weekends now, as she is raising her 3 children as well. She loves spending time with her husband and kids, going out bush in Jarrahdale, swimming at Coogee Beach and strolling through Fremantle. She has 2 a dog Dexter, and a cat Luna.

Mady (Qualified Veterinary Nurse)

Qualified Vet Nurse. Mady completed her work experience training with us at the end of 2018, we were so impressed with her passion and commitment that we offered her a job with us.

Training Nurses

We have a number of trainee nurses who work alongside our experience nurse team. While attending TAFE or Applied Vocational Training these nurses attend Spearwood Vet one day a week for six months as part of their training.

Groomers

Christine (Senior Veterinary Nurse & Grooming Manager)

Chris has been with us for 18 years, as a Vet Nurse and Groomer. She now manages the grooming department. Bec

A very experienced groomer who has been operating her own grooming salon in Mandurah as well as working at Spearwood Vets “Furry Friends” Grooming since 2012. Bec has a dog called “Rocky the ridge” because of the unusual ridge of hair down his back because he is a Terrier Ridgeback Cross. You may see him around as Rocky frequently comes to work.

Nicole

Nicole has worked here since 2016 as a groomer and has an interest in learning and perfecting stylised clips. She enjoys building lasting relationships with clients and their dogs. Although she works hard to enhance her skill set, she also loves playing with all of the dogs that come to us. her special interest is in schnauzers and poodle clips. She has a dog named Edda, she is a miniature schnauzer. She does enjoy caring for her mothers dog, Lottie in the meantime. She loves reading, swimming and making cosplay costumes.

Emma

Emma is an experienced groomer who now works part time as she has just started a family. Previously Emma has operated her own grooming business in England before starting at Furry Friends. Emma has two dogs “Tilly” a cocker spaniel, “Reggie” a kelpie cross and a cat called “Scooter”
